IPL 2008 – Poor performance and disappointment
RCB played his first IPL match on 18 April 2008 against Kolkata Knight Riders. RCB captain was Rahul Dravid. RCB won the toss and decided to bat first and Kolkata Knight Riders batted first and scored 222 runs but RCB could score only 82 runs and lost the match by 140 runs. Bangalore won only 4 out of 14 matches in the whole season and finished in the seventh position. RCB’s team had wonderful players like Rahul Dravid, Dale Steyn, Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, Jacques Kallis.
IPL 2009 – So close to victory but didn’t win
Bangalore did not do well in the last season but played very well in this season. Bangalore bought Kevin Pietersen in IPL auction and made him captain. Under the new captaincy of Bangalore, Bangalore won 2 out of the first 6 matches and Kevin Pietersen had to leave IPL for his national team.
Kevin Pietersen handed over the captaincy to Anil Kumble. Bangalore won 8 out of 14 matches in the season and Bangalore qualified. In the semi-finals, Bangalore faced Chennai Super Kings and Bangalore won this match by 6 wickets and qualified for the finals.
In The final, Bangalore faced Deccan Chargers, both the teams were on last post in the last season. Deccan Chargers batted first and made 143 runs. And then RCB came to the ground to chase this score and RCB could make only 137 runs and RCB lost by 6 runs
IPL 2010 – Great performance but lost in the knockout match
Once again Anil Kumble took over the captaincy of RCB. Banglore played very well throughout the season but in the semi-final match RCB faced Mumbai Indians and Mumbai Indians won the match by 35 runs. Jacques Kallis scored the most runs for RCB, (572 runs). And Anil Kumble took the most wickets for RCB, (17 wickets).
IPL 2011 – Runner up once again
This time Bangalore was playing under the captaincy of Daniel Vettori. In the first five matches, RCB won only 1 match and the man of the match of that match was Ab De Villiers who played an unbeaten innings of 54 runs in 40 balls. And then after that RCB won 7 matches consecutively.
RCB’s semi-final match with New South Wales in which New South Wales batted first and scored 203 runs and then RCB came to the ground to chase this score and due to the brilliant innings of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, they won it by 6 wickets and the man of the match was Virat Kohli with 84 runs in 49 balls.
And then RCB’s final match was with Chennai Super Kings in which RCB lost this match badly and once again RCB was runner up.
